How to Sell on Amazon FBA?

Why Amazon FBA?

Amazon has created a standard for all online sellers in the form of two-day shipping under Amazon Prime. With over 100 million subscribers worldwide, it’s likely someone you know is a Prime member. You simply can’t beat the level of convenience Amazon offers its customers.

However, because this is the new expectation for shoppers, you’ll need to offer free two-day shipping on the items you sell in order to not get sidelined by competitors who are Prime-eligible. This is the main reason for using Amazon FBA.

With the Amazon FBA, you’ll ship your items to an Amazon warehouse, and they’ll take care of the rest of the process for you, including customer service. Amazon picks, packs, and ships each of the items you sell.

Amazon FBA is a cost-effective way to ship your items and manage and scale your business. While you will pay a fee for this service, you’re getting tons of benefits from Amazon that make it worthwhile.

How to Sell on Amazon FBA

In our Amazon training program, you’ll learn how to sell on Amazon and become a successful business owner. In the meantime, we’ll take you through the general rules for how to sell using the Amazon FBA program.

1) Creating a Seller Account

In order to start selling on Amazon, you’ll need a seller account. There are two types of seller accounts available: Professional and Individual. If you’re going to sell more than 40 products a month, you’ll want a Professional account. If you plan on starting slow or you’re doing this as a side hustle, consider an Individual account.

When you create your account, you’ll need to provide seller information, like your name address, and display name. The display name is the name buyers see next to the item you are selling. It can be anything you want, but it should be similar to your business name so that customers can easily find you again.

2) Listing Your Products on Amazon

Once you’ve picked the products you want to sell, it’s time to list them on Amazon. In our Amazon FBA training, we’ll teach you how to choose products that are already listed; this means that you’ll save time and money by avoiding the need to list products yourself.

3) Convert Your Items to Fulfilment by Amazon Items

You don’t have to use Amazon FBA for each and every item you sell, and there are even some items that can’t be shipped through the program. For this reason, you will need to go into your account and manually select which items you want to fulfill through the Amazon FBA program.

In order to do this, you’ll go into the Inventory tab in the Seller Central homepage and then to Manage Inventory. Once you do that, you’ll select the Actions drop-down menu for each product and find “Change to Fulfilled by Amazon.”

Once you do this, your listings will be removed temporarily from Amazon. This happens so that Amazon can ensure that they receive your inventory at their fulfillment center. In order to sell your products through the FBA, you’ll have to finish the entire process.

4) Creating an FBA Shipping Plan

You’ll be promoted by Amazon to create a shipping plan. You’ll need your ship-from address and your packaging type. There are two packaging types:

  • Individual Products
  • Case-packed products

In most cases, you’ll be sending Individual Products. You’ll only select Case-packed Products if you’re sending a box with the exact same item in it. Once you select your shipping plan, you can begin adding all of the items you want to sell.

5) Shipping Your Products to Amazon

Now that you’ve created your shipping plan with all of your items, it’s time to send your items to Amazon. Again, you’ll need to access the Inventory tab and enter how many units of each item you’re sending.

This step is fairly straightforward and not as time-consuming as running the whole shipping operation by yourself. If your item requires any prep, you’ll have to select who – whether you or Amazon – will prep them. Lastly, you’ll have to select who will label the product.

Once your shipment is approved, you can purchase shipping from Amazon. This will depend how much your entire package weighs. Next, you’ll print out your labels and stick them on the package. You can then drop them off at your local UPS.

6) Selling Your First Item on Amazon

Now that you’ve shipped your package to Amazon and they have received it, your items will become available for purchase on Amazon.com. If you’re selling a popular, in-demand item, the wait for your first sale won’t be too long. Your first sale on Amazon may be a small item, but it will be the first of many to come.
